Cover Your Assets: Become a Millionaire In 30 Minutes or Less!

Grandpa Beck’s Games has released quite a few card games over the years, but none has been quite so cutthroat as Cover Your Assets. In this high-stakes, high-energy card game, players will duke it out to see who is the first to reach millionaire status. You’ll draw asset cards to build your pile, stacking cards upon cards until the end of the round. But make sure to keep an eye on your assets, because stealing is par for the course! Cover Your Assets is the perfect game for all generations–just as long as they’re okay with a little competition.

Making a Pair

You start Cover Your Assets by shuffling all 110 asset cards together and dealing 4 cards to each player. Then, players take turns to build their assets taking one of four actions. The first thing you can do is to make a pair from your hand. If you’ve got a pair of matching asset cards, you can put them together and lay them down in your personal asset card pile. Wild cards can be used in place of any card you like, so feel free to use these as you see fit.

You can also make a pair using the top card in the discard pile if it matches one of your cards. As you grow your stack with different sets of assets, you’ll place them perpendicularly on top of each other to build your stack. Keep in mind that, even if you have more than two of a certain kind of asset cards, you can only play two cards to make an asset pair.

Steal or Be Stolen From

Stealing cards from other players is one of the most diabolical parts of Cover Your Assets. To steal your opponent’s assets, you’ll need to show an asset card from your hand that is a match to the one at the top of their pile. The other player isn’t helpless to theft, however, as they can defend by showing you another asset card of the same kind (or a wild card) from their hand. The would-be thief can then counter with their own matching or wild card, going back and forth until someone runs out of cards. Then, the winner gets all of the cards used in the battle.

Adding It All Up

If you can’t make a match or steal from another player (or you simply don’t want to), you can discard a card and draw a new one. The round ends until the draw pile is empty and everyone has played all their cards. At the end of each round, each player adds up their assets to see who reaches one million dollars. If no one claims that title yet, then a new round begins.

Cover Your Kingdom

There’s a spinoff to Cover Your Assets called Cover Your Kingdom, which takes these ruthless money-grabbers and turns them into royalty. This fantasy card game casts you as rulers recruiting clans of magical creatures to your kingdom in an effort to collect the most magic. This game adds to the fun of the original by giving free creatures the ability to perform actions such as forcing rulers to swap or remove clans. Players can employ their services during rounds to mess with the competition and sneak their way to the top.

Cover Your Kingdom also expands the game to allow up to 8 players, so it’s excellent for bigger families as well as fans of the original. If you’re a sucker for fantasy and love a little competition, Cover Your Kingdom is a worthy addition to the collection. Spice up any family reunion with a little magical backstabbing!

Cover Your Assets and Trust No One

Cover Your Assets is playable by 2-6 players, which makes it an excellent game for families. It’s also suitable for ages 8 and up, so younger players will have just as much fun double-crossing as the adults. Playing time lasts between 15-45 minutes, so you can toss in a round or two in a game night or on a lazy Saturday morning. Buy Cover Your Assets today and watch your competitive streak go wild!

Cover Your Assets: Stack the Deck

Cover Your Assets is a cheeky card game from Grandpa Beck’s Games that pits family members against each other in a greedy race to become a millionaire. By building towers of valuable assets and stealing from the competition, you’ll accumulate enough wealth and luxury to beat the other players and win the ultimate bragging rights! With quick to learn rules and dynamic strategies, Cover Your Assets is the ultimate game for competitive families.

Collecting Your Assets

Every player in the game has to build their own stack of assets using matching sets of cards. Each set of cards will match two of the same type of asset cards. There are 10 different kinds of asset cards in the game, from sparkling jewels to overflowing piggy banks. Each time you create a new set you’ll stack it crosswise on top of the previous set to build your tower of assets.

Each turn you have one of several options. The first option is to make a pair of assets from your own hand, which you can then add to your assets tower. Wild cards can be used in place of any type of asset, so be sure to keep an eye out for these valuable collectibles. The second option you have is to draw the top card from the discard pile, which can be used to make a pair and add to your assets tower. If the first two options don’t work, you have the third option to discard one of your cards and draw a new one from the draw piles.

Stealing And Defending Assets

The last option you have is to try and steal a set of assets from one of your fellow players. This is where the name Cover Your Assets comes from, and it’s the most diabolical part of the game. To challenge another player and steal their assets, you need at least one set of assets in your own stack. The other player also needs at least two sets of assets on their stack (although you can only attempt to steal the top set).

In order to steal someone’s assets, you have to show them a card that matches their top set. This is where it gets interesting, however, as that player can defend their assets by showing you a matching card of their own. If you’ve got another matching card (or a wild card), you can continue this back-and-forth until one of you runs out of that type of card. The winner gets ALL of the cards used in the challenge, and can proudly add them to the top of their stack (and rake in the points at the end of the round).

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

Once you’ve played your turn, you’ll draw cards to replenish your hand until eventually the draw pile runs out. The round ends when there are no cards left to play—although these last few moments can often be the most critical! A last minute steal can win you valuable assets that can boost your score enough to put you over the limit and win the game. Scores will be tallied at the end of every round, and the first player to reach one million dollars in assets wins the game. If two players reach a million dollars in the same round, whoever has the highest score wins!

Cover Your Assets: A Game For Ruthless Families

Cover Your Assets is playable by 2-6 players and is suitable for ages 8 and up, so families with multiple generations can all enjoy the addictive nature of this ruthless card game. Playing time lasts between around 15-45 minutes, which is short enough to hold young kids’ attention while allowing more advanced players to still enjoy the thrill of long-form strategy.

Sometimes the best way to bring the family together is by pitting everyone against each other. Stealing assets and challenging the other players adds a deliciously malicious nature to the game that keeps things interesting while remaining lighthearted at the same time. Cover Your Assets is small and easy to pack, so it’s the perfect thing to bring along to spice up any vacation!
